A trial season, before we call this place finished.

WHY A TRIAL PERIOD

Built by hand, tested by you.

We’ve spent the past several months building this place room by room, mostly by hand, with the help of volunteers from all over the world. Before we call it “finished” and fully open, we want a season to test everything — the rooms, the heating, the daily rhythm of life here — with real guests staying with us. Your feedback during this period will directly shape what Tazawako becomes.

A few honest notes

Because this is a trial period and not a full opening, we want to be upfront: things won’t be perfect yet. Parts of the building may still be mid-renovation, the heating might not keep every room quite as warm as we’d like, and small fixes will likely keep happening throughout the season. If you’re comfortable coming with an adventurous, patient spirit — and maybe an extra sweater — we’d genuinely love to have you as part of this first winter.

A TAZAWAKO WINTER

Snow at the window, onsen at dusk.

Winter here means snow piling up outside the windows, the ski season nearby, and the local onsen waiting at the end of a cold day. It’s quieter than summer, but in its own way just as alive — long dinners together, wood stoves running, and plenty of time to slow down. If you’ve ever wanted to experience a proper Akita winter while still getting your work done, this is it.

Snow piling outside the windows, ski season minutes away
A hot natural onsen at the end of every cold day
Wood stoves running, long dinners, time to slow down
